Jean Cappadonna Nichols
January 22 - March 21, 2010

A selection of sculpture by former Midland and Odessa resident, Jean Cappadonna Nichols (b.1941) will be featured as the first exhibit for the Contemporary Artists Series in 2010. Born in Port Arthur, Texas to first generation Italian-American parents, Jean moved with her family at the age of seven to
Midland where she attended elementary, junior high and high school. She attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock where she eventually received her BFA in Drawing after marrying her high school sweetheart Larry Nichols and raising three daughters. Speaking of her work, the artist states, “The approach to my work is very much that of a formalist: I try to utilize the elements of visual art to achieve the best results.” And she continues, “Of equal importance to me, is the employment of these elements to communicate an idea based on content. Most of the time, I use humor to entice the viewer into the piece.”

Nichols earned a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the University of Mississippi. She resides in Fort Meyers, Florida
