Get Inspired by Space!

Visitors to The Blakemore Planetarium will be greeted by a new look and a “first-ever” permanent space science exhibit. The permanent exhibition is being designed and built by Malone Design of Atlanta, Georgia. Entering the main exhibit gallery, visitors will encounter a dynamic space full of backlit graphics, fun interactives and brilliant images from the Hubble telescope. Bright interactive columns, like spectral lines, follow along the curved wall as visitors begin their adventure through our solar system.

At the learning station, “A Star is Born” visitors learn about the life cycles and types of stars before exploring what they are made of at the spectroscopy interactive. They will also be able to play with plasma by interacting with a column-mounted plasma ball.

Next, visitors are introduced to our star, the sun, - while a video “Solar Weathercast” explains solar phenomena such as solar flares and wind, and how they affect things on Earth, the third rock from the sun.

Visitors will begin their tour of the solar system by learning about …Wait! Are you enticed yet? These are just two of a multitude of interactive learning stations planned as part of the permanent exhibit.
For “the rest of the story” make sure you visit the newly renovated Planetarium. So, get ready to get inspired by space!
