Our Sister City
Midland and Ciudad Chihuahua, Mexico have a Sister City connection.
In 2007 the Museum of the Southwest presented the exhibit "Anthony Quinn's Eye" as a part of an intercultural exchange and celebration between the two cities.
Anthony Quinn
Anthony Quinn was born in Chihuahua in 1915, and to honor this relationship the multi-event cultural and sports exchange with the city of Chihuahua took place during the Quinn art exhibit. Of course Anthony Quinn is world famous for his many years working internationally as an actor. He is shown in the Sister City logo in his "Zorba the Greek" role. Quinn earned two Oscars for his performance in the movies “Viva Zapata” and “Lust for Life.”
But Quinn was also a visual artist and a life long collector of art. The exhibit at the Museum of the Southwest "Anthony Quinn's Eye" featured seventy works of art, not only by Quinn himself but also from his diverse collection. The exhibit ranged from ancient Roman artifacts to Modern art. A hardbound book authored by Quinn's widow accompanied the show.
