Star Parties and Activities

Star Parties are held once a month on the Friday closest to the first Quarter Moon.
They begin about 8:30 p.m., weather conditions permitting.
The dates for 2010 Star Parties are:
February 19th, March 19th, April 23rd, May 21st, and June 18th.
For the remainder of the year, Star Parties are scheduled for:
July 16th, August 20th, September 17th, October 15th, November 12th, and December 17th.
Star Parties are basically public outreach programs. Astronomy club members volunteer their time and telescopes to educate the public about the night sky. Star Parties are also excellent opportunities for those new to astronomy as they give the beginner a chance to use different kinds of equipment and to ask experienced club members for assistance with their own equipment.
Normally, the parties start shortly before dark. You just might find yourselves wanting to stay later then expected, so come prepared with folding chairs, proper clothing and refreshments. A "red" flashlight is a good idea. These are year-round events, and best of all they are always free.
For the Midland-Odessa area, contact The West Texas Astronomers.
The local contact to email and phone is Sara or Bruce Moore at: saram55@suddenlink.net.
