Volunteer

The Museum of the Southwest is actively seeking volunteers who have an interest and a desire to help others appreciate the world of art and science that is presented at the Museum of Fine Arts, the Children's Museum and the Planetarium. Volunteers play a vital role in meeting the educational goals of the museum and helping us provide services to our community. Opportunities for volunteer service include; touring, collections research, reception desk, mailing and office support, and support help during special events.

Docents/ Tour Guides
Docents, or tour guides, are curious individuals who have an enthusiasm for learning, enjoy being active in interesting work, love to share information, and can make connections to visitors of all ages. An important part of the docents job is helping the museum visitor discover what the museum has to offer. They assist the visitors with information about the exhibits, and guide discussions about works of art that help the visitors respond to and appreciate what they see. We are currently seeking docents/tour guides to train and be available to give tours on a flexible basis.

Behind the Scenes
We are currently looking for volunteers with flexible schedules to work on special mailings throughout the year.

Internships and Community Service
The Museum of the Southwest is available for Internships in Museum Studies, or related fields. The museum is actively seeking students to work as part-time assistants to the various departments at the Museum of the Southwest in exchange for class credit or community service hours.

For questions or more information please contact the Art Education Department at the museum by phone (432) 683-2882, or e-mail (dhedrick@museumsw.org).
