Taking Flight: By Jennye Stubblefield

About the Artist

Jennye Stubblefield presently lives and paints from her home studio in San Antonio, Texas. She is a native of Kentucky, where her love of the landscape arose. Before moving to San Antonio, she completed her classical training in painting and printmaking at The Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts, and degree at the University of Pennsylvania. She received many awards and traveling grants permitting time in Europe to further her studies. Stubblefield has had the opportunity to study with or have studio critics with Janet Fish, Manuel Neri, Sidney Goodman, Vincent Desiderio, and others. Presently, she actively displays and ships her work around the United States to numerous Invitational and Juried Exhibitions each year.

Stubblefield considers herself an Aerial Landscape Painter that enjoys teetering between abstraction and representational painting in response to this perspective. An aerial vantage point is her preferred muse, a catalyst of contemplation, meditation, and self reflection. She is also fascinated with ideas of The Sublime and Ephemeral within aerial travel and its visual experience and impact. Chartering flights and surveying earth's vastness has inspired creations of the grandeur in nature, but from a new modern perspective. She examines and replicates her impressions and the different perspective points from flight. The typography of the earth is a stimulant for creative compositions, designs, and color constructs. She allows the unique abstractions and color of the landscape to show through and sometimes dominate in her paintings.
