Questions to consider when visiting Rosie Sandifer’s sculpture The Gift:

  • Who are the children in this sculpture?  How old do you think they are?  What is their relationship to each other?

  • The title of this sculpture is The Gift.  What is the gift that is being given in this sculpture?

  • What do you think happened just before the image in this sculpture took place?

  • What do you think will happen next?

A native of Lubbock, Texas, Rosie Sandifer studied art at Southwestern State University in Oklahoma and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She is known for her realistic figurative sculptures, particularly children. Sandifer has said of her work, “I feel that sculpture should be taken off the pedestals it was displayed on in the past.  Introducing art on a human scale into the immediate environment of adults and children creates an aesthetic experience that can have a lasting impact.”

Rosie Sandifer is not just a sculpture but also creates works in oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic and graphite.  Her book, Language of Art, published in 2007 features a selection of her works and also stories about their creation and installation.
