The West reimagined by JC Spock
ABOUT
J.C. Spock’s Southwest Series is a richly layered collection of mixed media works that captures the nostalgia, history, and rugged beauty of the American Southwest. Drawing inspiration from desert landscapes, adobe architecture, open roads, and the fading remnants of Western Americana, each piece blends photography, acrylic paint, inks, pastels, and authentic vintage ephemera to create works that feel both contemporary and timeless.
Anchored by Spock’s own photography of locations throughout the Southwest, the collection evokes a romanticized vision of the region through weathered textures, muted palettes, and layered storytelling. Old letters, postcards, tickets, ledgers, and other found materials are embedded into the compositions, creating depth and a sense of lived history that invites viewers to reflect on memory, place, and the passage of time.
From expansive desert vistas and ghost towns to intimate studies of adobe walls and roadside Americana, the Southwest Series celebrates the spirit of the West while exploring the emotional pull of nostalgia and our connection to the past. Spock’s work balances painterly abstraction with photographic realism, resulting in textured compositions that feel deeply personal, historic, and evocative of a bygone era.
